About Care2Run

Care2Run was founded in 2015 as a non-profit social enterprise. Our aim is to transform differently-abled young people and young people from under-served communities to become tomorrow’s leaders via evidence-based adaptive sports programmes.

Among our current partners and collaborators are schools under the Ministry of Education Malaysia, the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation, as well as the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Malaya and the University of Tsukuba (Japan).

Project Hope Takes Learning Outside the Classroom

Care2Run’s pilot programme was executed successfully with the support of Care2Run volunteers, WAO staff & refuge women, children from WAO Child Care Centre and Prudential Welfare Home, on the 17th of October 2015. This marked the birth of Care2Run. The event culminated to our first media feature in the November and December 2015 issue of Running Malaysia Magazine.

Learn Life Lessons With Running and Hiking Mentors

Care2Run’s under-served children raised funds for prostate cancer, demonstrating empathy. All 108 participants completed a three-kilometer run thanks to the Care2Run goal-setting module. This skill spilled over into improved academic performance, with 20 children earning their first medals or certificates. It marked a pivotal moment, boosting confidence and led to our first feature in The Star newspaper on January 23, 2016.

Care2Run by Project H.O.P.E

Care2Run representatives, Denise and Sandra were featured on BFM radio’s podcast to discuss the beginnings and goals of the organisation. They let the audience in on their personal experiences with Care2Run as they share their thoughts and feelings.

Running For Life

On January 16, 2018, Care2Run had 34 under-served and special needs children participating in the Standard Chartered KL Marathon at Dataran Merdeka. The marathon had three categories: 3km, 5km, and 10km runs. The children received support from 36 mentors, including Care2Run volunteers, teachers, and cancer survivors from the UMMC Cancer Survivors Exercise Support Group.The Star newspaper featured Care2Run in an article on that date.

Grateful for the opportunity to represent Care2Run at LITE (Malaysia). When others shy away Care2Run embraces the most under-served and forgotten part of the population. Youngsters with autism. Youngsters with Down syndrome. Youngsters from low socio-economic background.

World Down Syndrome Day with ORKIDS

On 21st March, which is World Down Syndrome
Day, Care2Run collaborated with ORKIDS to
create awareness about Down syndrome
and support their organisation. 100 portraits
and nine videos of children from ORKIDS were
produced. Care2Run put in about ten days of
‘heart work’ to make this feat possible.

Special Olympics Selangor

On May 22, 2022, Care2Run and Xtraordinary Digital
School joined forces with Special Olympics Selangor for the State Games, marking one of their first post-pandemic physical events. They documented the joyful moments as young athletes participated in various sports, capturing the exuberance and resilience of these athletes. It was a heartwarming event that showcased the enduring spirit of these young athletes.

KL Bar Run 2023

On January 15, Care2Run kicked off the year with the KL Bar Run 2023 at Metropolitan Park in
Kepong, Malaysia. Ten Care2Run relay teams, with 40 runners and volunteer pacers, were supported
by numerous family and friends. Generous sponsors, including law firms Zarina Loh & Wong and Kevin
Wong & Partners, made this event possible.

KL Bar Run 2024

On January 21, Care2Run started the year with the KL Bar Run 2024 at Metropolitan Park, Kepong, Malaysia. Ten relay teams from Care2Run, consisting of 48 runners and volunteer pacers, participated, with strong support from family and friends. The event was made possible through the generosity of sponsors, including law firms Zarina Loh & Wong and Kevin Wong & Partners.

Creating new horizons for cross-cultural research on autism

Dr. Marieke’s research reveals that children with more autism traits and executive function difficulties experience reduced quality of life. She’s dedicated to increasing awareness and acceptance, collaborating with centers like Oasis Place, PPIA, Ideas Autism, and Care2run.
